Current Information:Born-Kennington Loker Churchyard, Belgium
On 26th February, 1915, the 3rd Worcestershire, of 7 Brigade, 3rd Division left their billets at Locre and moved into trenches east of Kemmel where they remained until 4th March. The battalion diary recorded very little of their time here so there is no information concerning the death of Harry Ward who died from wounds on 27th February. The attrition rate among British soldiers on the Western Front was on average 300 each day and 60% of these were as a result of shellfire. When not involved in an actual battle it was either shell fire or a sniper’s bullet that caused most deaths and injuries. |
